Аннотация

This chapter explores cross-country similarities and differences in national pride and explains national pride variations on the individual and country levels. The multilevel regression models on the ISSP-2003 data confirm the feasibility of distinction between grounded (cognitively processed, based on specific country achievements evaluated against expectations) and normatively imposed national pride. The effect of objective country achievements indicated by GDP per capita appeared significant for grounded pride but not for normative pride. The latter is affected on the country level by the degree of religiosity, which indicates susceptibility to normative messages fostering national pride.
